The following statement was issued by Rep. Mario M. Scavello (R-Monroe), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, in reaction to Gov. Ed Rendell’s budget address on Feb. 9, in which he proposed $1.2 billion in additional spending as well as a plan to lower the state sales tax from 6 percent to 4 percent, while broadening it to include 74 currently untaxed categories. This plan would generate $535.5 million in revenue to be placed into a new restricted revenue account called the Stimulus Transition Reserve Fund:
